Shelly began her training as an artistic gymnast at the age of 7. After 5 years she realized that flexibility was her gift and switched to rhythmic gymnastics. She competed as a rhythmic gymnast for the next 4 years, traveling across the country to national competitions, and rising to the top US rank of Level 10 Senior Gymnast.

Shelly started performing locally as a contortionist during her rhythmic career and retired from competition in 2005 to become a full time performer. Along the way she added aerial silks, stilt walking and modeling to her skill set. She now performs frequently throughout the United States and abroad.
